“Everybody wants to live long, but nobody wants to be ‘Old’. ‘Old’ is not a positive word. That’s why I came upon the word ZOOMER. You take the word ‘Boomer’ in wide usage, add the concept of ‘Zip!’ and you get ‘Zoomer’.” – Moses
In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, media pioneer Moses Znaimer defined a generation of youth by creating many of the most successful landmarks of Canadian television including Citytv, MuchMusic, MusiquePlus, CablePulse24, FashionTelevision, Bravo!, SPACE – The Imagination Station, and Canadian Learning Television. In 2008, Marketing Magazine named him one of the Top 10 Canadian Media Moguls of the Past 100 Years.
Now, Moses is a champion for Canada’s 14.5 million Baby Boomers and has popularized the term “Zoomer” to describe them.
“My insight was that even that massive, market moving and ultra youthful generation known as the Boomers had inevitably to age; and that if they were considered dominant while they were young (because of their size) then surely they must still be dominant even if they were getting older.
The 45plus are the single most influential consumer group in world history. They have more money and time than any other demographic – by far. They don’t follow the crowd. They are the crowd. They’ve led, then transformed, then dominated every market they’ve entered. And they change loyalties with ruthless efficiency, hence the importance of communicating frequently with them.”
