John Thornton

John Thornton is an award-winning television, documentary/news producer who has now turned his sights toward advocating for gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) people as they age.

As the PinkCARP Chapter Chair and Founder, John has been reaching out to Canada’s aging GLBT community to create a safe environment for ongoing dialogue to assess the needs of this underserved segment of the population, and bringing issues such as homophobia, gay friendly housing and outreach to the forefront of social activism.

John is an authority on speaking to the GLBT community. As the Executive Producer and co-creator of the acclaimed PinkPlanet: A Global Search for Gay Culture, John is responsible for developing the first television series of its kind in the world.

As Vice President, Original Programming at ZoomerMedia Limited, John is involved in spearheading a revolutionary change in marketing toward the massive aging Baby Boomer demographic.

John has received the 1989 Radio Television News Directors Award; and Metropolitan Ambulance, Toronto Fire and York Fire Department Award for Best Television News Documentary for Seconds Can Save.
